At the Habarana Solar Ground Mounted Project, Hayleys Fentons introduced a nature-based approach to enhance biodiversity while reducing wildlife intrusion into the project area.

In place of conventional electric fencing, a bio-fence was established along the project boundary using Hana and lime plants. Approximately 1,600 plants were planted at one-metre spacing, creating a natural, ecologically compatible boundary.

Beehive boxes were also positioned along selected boundary areas. Active bee colonies act as a natural deterrent to elephants while supporting pollinator activity and wider biodiversity.

The initiative demonstrates how nature-based solutions can serve both wildlife conservation and the operational resilience of renewable energy projects.
