Our History
With a legacy spanning over a century, Hayleys Fentons Limited has grown from a pioneering electrical engineering firm into one of Sri Lanka’s most diversified and dynamic engineering service providers.
Established in 1919 by British Chartered Electrical Engineer Herbert Fenton, the company has consistently evolved with the changing needs of the industry expanding from its electrical roots into a true engineering powerhouse with multifaceted capabilities..
Fentons was founded by Herbert Fenton, a British Chartered Electrical Engineer, at Union Place, Colombo, marking a milestone in Sri Lanka’s engineering legacy.
Registered as a Limited Liability Company, Fentons became one of the country’s first formally incorporated engineering firms.
With Herbert Fenton’s retirement, leadership transitioned fully to a Sri Lankan management team, paving the way for local innovation and stewardship.
Fentons embarked on a bold diversification journey, entering the electronics and telecommunications fields through a landmark partnership with NEC Corporation, Japan.
Established Energynet (Pvt) Ltd, marking a new era of specialised energy solutions.
Launched the company’s renewable energy arm Fentons Solar Energy focusing on solar PV systems and pioneering Sri Lanka’s renewable transition.
Introduced Fentons Smart Facilities (Pvt) Ltd, offering maintenance and facilities management solutions with a focus on sustainability and service excellence.
Hayleys PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates, acquired a majority stake in Fentons Limited, uniting two trusted names with shared values and vision.
Unveiled the SPIDER strategy and integrated Hayleys Electronics operations under Fentons, expanding our technological capabilities.
Rebranded as Hayleys Fentons Limited, while Fentons Solar Energy became Hayleys Solar - reaffirming our position as Sri Lanka’s foremost engineering and renewable energy company.
Hayleys Electronics became a fully owned subsidiary of Hayleys Fentons, strengthening our presence in the technology and innovation landscape.
Introduced a refreshed corporate identity with a new logo symbolising growth, energy, and forward movement.
Surpassed LKR 1 billion in profit for the first time in company history.
Launched Nex-Gen Engineering Studio and Nex-Gen Engineering PTE Ltd (Singapore), extending our expertise beyond borders.
Legally transitioned to Hayleys Fentons Limited, becoming the second-highest contributor to Hayleys Group profitability.
Rebranded our ICT arm as Fentons Information Technology (FIT), expanding into new business verticals.
